Squad for EM qualifying matches
Cristiano Ronaldo, who now plays for Al-Nassr FC, will continue as planned for the Portugal national team. Apart from the 38-year-old superstar, who is also his country’s record holder and top scorer, new coach Roberto Martínez has also named three Bundesliga professionals for the next European Championship qualifying matches in Lisbon on Friday.
In addition to João Cancelo (FC Bayern) and Raphaël Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund), Diogo Leite (Union Berlin) is also making his first appearance in the Seleção squad. Portugal will face Liechtenstein in the Germany 2024 tournament qualifier on March 23 and travel to Luxembourg three days later.

After the disappointing World Cup in Qatar and his move to Saudi Arabia, there were questions about whether five-time world footballer Ronaldo would continue playing for the Portuguese. Martínez explained why he counts on the striker: “A player like Cristiano can bring a lot of experience, he’s a very important figure for the team. He thinks that “Cristiano has the opportunity to help the team”.
