Tennis player Tereza Martincová was eliminated in the second round of the tournament in Moscow. The balanced duel with former world number one Garbina Muguruza lost 4: 6, 6: 4 and 3: 6 after two hours and 45 minutes.
The 51st player of the world, Martincová, entered the duel with the world five boldly and, thanks to a break in the fourth game, bounced back to 4: 1. But then she lost five games in a row with her favored Spaniard and lost the opening set.
Muguruza also had the beginning of the second set, but the spillover continued. The Spaniard did not confirm the break at 3: 2, Martincová won another three games and served 5: 3 to equalize.
She did not change two sets in her own service, among other things, due to a double mistake, but she also took the lead on the return tour, and in the end she was helped in the sixth set by a Spanish backhand mistake.
In the decisive set, shootings full of hard blows mostly ended in favor of the Spaniard. Martincová lost the serve three times and after a 3: 6 defeat, she said goodbye to the tournament in the Russian capital.
Of the Czech tennis players, only the silver Olympic medalist Markéta Vondroušová is in the singles in the Kremlin Cup, which the Ukrainian Lesja Curenková is waiting for in the second round on Thursday.
