Friday evening of the 37th round of the extra league brought a spectacle between Ocelar and České Budějovice. The home team was losing by two goals after the first half, but in the second period they managed to turn around when they converted three power plays out of three possible ones. The engine equalized, but in extra time sniper Martin Růžička got to speak.

The Třineck gunner became the clear hero of the match. The Steelers won thanks to four goals scored, all of which were scored by Růžička. “The points are great, but the main thing is that we managed to win the match. I’m glad it turned out this way. We need points, everyone is important,” assesses the local star.

During the second period, he played the role of assistant in Třinec’s power-play events. “We reacted to what Budějovice played. We played all three situations brilliantly. It worked. Power plays clearly helped us turn the result around. Then, unfortunately, we conceded, but in extra time we finally grabbed it,” he says with joy.

In extra time, the fighter from Třinec performed a famous individual action when he went around three Motor players and slipped to the goal and finished perfectly. “I certainly didn’t plan it this way. I was just reacting to the opponent. The space in front of me opened up. I tried it and it worked, even though I didn’t have much strength anymore, but it worked,” he says with a smile.

“I’m just trying to help the team, I don’t care about scoring at all.”

After Petr Lešek, Martin Růžička is only the second player in the highest domestic competition to reach over 40 points in ten seasons. “I’m just trying to help the team, I’m not concerned with any scoring and I’m not going to praise myself…”

During the last few hours, nothing else has been discussed in the Czech hockey environment than the departure of Václav Varadi from the Dynamo bench. The renowned coach was Růžiček’s former partner on the ice, but also his coach. “I can’t see hockey in Pardubice at all. They themselves know more about what is happening there, but I was surprised,” Růžička says.
