In the course of the conversation, the man finally admitted that he had been lonely and had brought Macaw out of the animal shelter. The 36-year-old then led the police to a garage in a family home. Ara could be found there in good health. Ara was brought back into the care of the team on the Siegener Heidenberg via the emergency service of the animal shelter.

It was just such a great moment when I saw Ara again, ”explained Vanessa Holstein, head of the dog department at the Siegen animal shelter. When she got into the big run, Ara was also very happy. Was the garage Ara was staying in very dirty or had the man perhaps blackened it in to give the dog a new identity? All speculation that the police could possibly give an answer to later.

In addition to the many calls on social media, the shelter had also contacted TV channels and other people. So it happened that even the well-known dog trainer Martin Rütter had launched an appeal on Facebook.

“We have put a lot of levers in place to find Ara again. There has not been such a theft in the last 20 years, ”said animal shelter manager Tobias Neumann in an interview. Before the great news of Aras Fund became known, a small group of the animal shelter had already contacted a private detective. The next step was to create a list of possible people with whom Ara had contact in the past and who could possibly be considered as perpetrators.
