Martin Odegaard is enjoying life in London. The Norwegian found the opportunities he craved in Madrid. He has developed a solid relationship with Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta and has settled into life in England and the Premier League with relative ease. In an interview with BT Sport, Odegaard opened up about his move to Madrid at 16 and how he gets along with his new Arsenal teammates.
“It was a little crazy, to be honest…” revealed Odegaard. “I didn’t realize it at the time because I was so young. But when you have Real Madrid after you, there is always a great desire. Now 22, Odegaard can look back and marvel at his debut in the Spanish capital. As a teenager, he trained alongside Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
Odegaard went on to recognize that arriving at a new club from Real Madrid means there are always high expectations from a player. “My expectations of myself are higher than anyone else. The difficult part appeals to me. Of course, there are people who always have high expectations of Real Madrid players. It’s part of being associated with such an important team, ”explained the Norway international.
The interview then turned into questions regarding Odegaard’s time at Arsenal with Mikel Arteta and his new teammates. Martin praised his new coach: “Arteta is a very smart person. I am very happy to be here, I have a lot to learn from this coach. The club is growing and I think Arsenal will return to the top very soon ”.
As is often the case, Odegaard was asked about his future and whether a permanent move to Arsenal was being considered. “You never know what might happen,” Odegaard told BT Sport. “Right now I’m focused on being the best version of myself for the rest of the season and helping the team in any way I can.”
Regarding his adaptation to the Premier League and Arsenal, Odegaard was optimistic. “I think I have adapted well to the team and the league. My teammates treat me very well and helped me from the first minute. I feel comfortable and I feel like part of the team, it was very easy to join this team, I am honored to be here and to be part of this group ”, concluded Odegaard.
It is clear that Odegaard is comfortable in his new surroundings and has formed a positive relationship with Mikel Arteta. A big decision awaits the Norwegian this summer. Does he stay and fight to fulfill his dream at Real Madrid or is the grass greener in London with a leading role already secured?
