Conferences and discussion tables will expand the panorama on this important topic in the mining industry.
The mining-energy transition process will be mainly addressed at the SYMPOSIUM – XV International Mining Meeting, organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) and which will be held between May 21 and 23.
María Julia Aybar, Country Manager of Hunt Oil Company and member of the SYMPOSIUM Organizing Committee in charge of the block Mining-Energy Transition: Well-being for humanityexplained that in Peru we are already experiencing the energy transition, but what does this set of changes imply for the country’s energy mining sector?
Precisely, in our panel we will talk about the importance of this process and how to approach it taking into account the energy matrix that has been developing in the national territory and the potential we have.
The segment will begin with a conference led by Martin Lambert, head of Hydrogen Research at the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies, an expert in the energy transition process with extensive experience in the natural gas industry and in the study of renewable energies and development. of hydrogen. During his presentation, an analysis of the energy transition process at a global level and its relationship with industries such as mining will be carried out.
Then, Aybar will moderate a round table composed of Adolfo Heeren, General Manager – Quellaveco, Anglo American; Simone Sciamanna, Director of the Peru Business Unit, Repsol Exploración Perú, Peru Branch; and José Ignacio Escobar, Executive Director of Colbun. The panelists will discuss the advances and development of new technologies in sustainability, as well as the large investment that the energy mining sector is making.
Adolfo Heeren will comment on the initiatives that Quellaveco has been carrying out in its mining activities to achieve emissions reduction; while José Ignacio Escobar will present us with the challenges of developing renewable energies in Chile and finally, Simone Sciamanna will show us her vision of the production of natural gas in Peru, a fuel that is part of the energy transition process.
“We are aware that we have to work to achieve emissions reduction and this requires, first, guaranteeing energy security, as well as access to energy at affordable costs and the sustainability of the system. For this reason, in our panel we will exchange experiences and proposals to find the balance of these three aspects,” Aybar added.
