TV presenter and dog whisperer Martin Gaus has criticized reality TV on NPO Radio 1, and in particular the RTL program Married At First Sight.

In Married At First Sight a group of singles are linked together by matchmakers and instead of dating, they immediately tie the knot.

VI House analyst Johan Derksen also recently made no secret of his opinion about the program. He called it ‘drunk’ that the couple saw each other for the first time at the wedding. “I think it’s crazy that people get married to someone they don’t know, who they’ve never met. Then you stand there in your Sunday suit and a pastry arrives. Then you are immediately deeply unhappy.”

In Of Perstribune lets Martin Gaus hear his unvarnished opinion. “My opinion is: disgusting television. Rancid television is based on people’s ignorance or strange ideas, allowing them to participate in such a program. You can have one conclusion: they are not concerned with the relationship, but with showing that they are there.”

According to Gaus, the program makers should be ashamed. “I think it is a shame that there are broadcasters or institutions that make these types of programs. I’m not for censorship, but it’s not right. It doesn’t fit into the system of how people enter into relationships at all. You build a relationship, a relationship grows.”

“Does not make any sense’

The idea of Married At First Sight Gaus doesn’t like it. “Don’t tell me you just put someone in front of an official and he says, ‘You can get married now.’ It does not make any sense. How do those people actually undress? Nothing has been built up. That doesn’t happen automatically, does it? That has to grow, right? Everyone knows with all the logic in the world that it is completely insane. I think it’s a shame.”

NPO Radio 1 presenter Ron Vergouwen is curious whether Gaus believes that these types of programs should be banned. “I think so, but there are many people who have a different opinion, but I think so.”
