Ex-Bundesliga star Martin Fenin (36) is daring to make a completely new start at Easter – and it will be challenging. He wants to live a life without alcohol.
The former professional of Eintracht Frankfurt (89 Bundesliga games) on Instagram: “March 28, 2024 is a completely normal date for many people – for me personally it is the beginning of a new phase in my life.” He then reveals: “After three months I am leaving the rehab clinic in Červený Dvor . It’s been my home since the beginning of the year.”

But in the years that followed, things went steeply downhill. The list of his missteps is long: Falling from a hotel window after being under the influence of alcohol and medication after moving to Energie Cottbus (2011), apartment set on fire, fights. In Germany, Fenin was labeled a “scandal professional”. He was thrown out of Chemnitzer FC after just two third division games (2016). The end of his career followed in 2017.

Last summer, Fenin caused a stir because he was an MMA fighter against Ex-Wolfsburg professional Kevin Pannewitz should get into the ring. But the fight broke down. What remained was Fenin’s thirst for alcohol.
According to a report by the Internet portal “blesk”, Fenin’s neighbors in the Stodulky district of Prague repeatedly complained about drinking last year. According to Blesk, he also often slept in the shared garage of the apartment building and refused to clean up excrement left behind. In addition, his marriage was apparently on the verge of ending.

But Fenin reacted, decided to withdraw and is now planning a new beginning. He writes on Instagram: “The stay in the clinic helped me clear my head. My daughter is the most important person in the world to me and I want to be a better role model for her than I have been so far.”
But he also knew that the hardest battle was yet to come after his stay in the hospital. Finally, in his post, he thanked ex-professionals Milan Baros (including Liverpool) and Tomas Ujfalusi (including Hamburger SV).
Fenin: “You helped me understand that there is no shame in seeking professional help and stood by me the whole time.”
