Last year’s NHL draft was downright historic for Slovakia. Juraj Slafkovský came out as a draft pick and Šimon Nemec was a number two. It was a historic moment for Slovakia, which not every country can boast of. How does Martin Fehérváry perceive the upcoming generation?
The Bratislava hockey prodigy was drafted into the NHL in 2018 in the 2nd round out of the 46th overall. However, he made his debut in the professional league only a season later, and he did not settle in the first team of the Washington Capitals until the 2021/22 year.
“When we were at the World Championships last year and I played with Jura (Slafkovský, editor’s note), I thought to myself – wow, he’s really good. When I saw how he was able to push through, I thought he was very smart. He’s having a hard time in Montreal, but he’ll be fine. If he works hard, doesn’t make a big deal out of people and does what’s best for him, he’ll be an NHL star in a few years.” he thought Martin Fehérváry in one of this year’s episodes of our show Goals from the buffet.
