Martin Bossenbroek has with his book The Zanzibar Triangle won the Libris History Prize. The non-fiction book is about Zanzibar’s history of slavery.

The winner was announced on Sunday in the radio program OVT. The prize honors historical books that appeal to a larger audience. The prize carries a sum of 20,000 euros.

Bossenbroek’s work is “both a public book to enjoy and an important contribution to the historiography of the history of slavery”, according to the jury. “A book that reads like an adventure novel that connects known and unknown history in a compelling way.”

In 2023, René van Stipriaan won the Libris History Prize with the book The Silent – The life of William of Orange.
