Martin Bakole explains Joe Joyce’s defeat to Zhang Zhilei due to inexperience with left-handers.

Congolese heavyweight Martin Bakole (18-1, 13 KOs) in an interview Boxing Social explained that the crushing defeat Joe Joyce (15-1, 14 KOs) in a recent fight with a Chinese Zhang Zhilei (25-1-1, 20) happened due to the Briton’s inexperience in boxing with left-handers.

“Good fight. Here is Zhilei’s performance! It came as a surprise to everyone that this big guy stopped Joyce, but I’m not surprised. Because he knew that Joe would have a big opponent, he is mobile, and he is left-handed. I don’t think Joyce has ever sparred or fought a southpaw in his career.”

“It’s all about Zhang’s plan. You see, no boxer fights fully open, thinking he can take any blow. This is a big mistake. It seems to me that the Joyce team did not work out this moment. Joe is used to fighting orthodox, not southpaws. And when you box with the orthodox, you basically only miss the jab. Anyone can take a jab. But then they forgot that they are fighting with a left-hander, who will have the strongest blow just from his left hand. And if you watch the fight, Zhilei didn’t throw the jab at all.”

Recall that Zhilei defeated Joyce by technical knockout in the 6th round after the decision of the doctor to remove the Briton from the fight due to an eye injury.
