Although Martien and his family also receive fans at Code Rosé, this had not started at their previous home in Noordwijk. They are constantly harassed. “There was a small roundabout in front of that house, so those people took the roundabout and stopped. And then, well… that was impossible,” Martien explains. Their neighbors are also going crazy and that’s why they have no choice but to move.
And moving is something Martien has been doing all his life. Although he won’t be going anywhere for a while: “We’re in a good place. We’re not going to buy anything anymore for the time being. It’s so nice there.”
In Aran on Tour the two visit the house where daughters Maxime and Montana were born. “That was a completely different period,” says De Chateau Meilandstar about that time. “Then we competed I leave, in 2006 and again in 2007. That was already quite a change. Who comes on TV with a program? (…) I still often think: how could life turn out this way.”
When Martien looks back on the evening that they were allowed to take home the Golden Televizier Ring, he becomes emotional: “I think it is so special. (…) Also because you experience such a breakthrough on TV ‘later in life’.”
Although everyone in the Netherlands knows the Meiland family after that evening, the family escapes all the madness: they still live in France at that time. “After that broadcast we just had to serve breakfast at the chateau, people came again,” he remembers.
Earlier, Donny Roelvink also got into the car with Aran. Watch that episode below.
