Martien Meiland breaks with Chateau Marillaux when they meet: ‘Emotional’

The Meilandjes sold the castle where they lived in 2007 two years ago I’m leavingadventure began. Here the family shared joy and sorrow, including the housekeeper Nadège. In 2024, Chateau Marillaux still seems to strike a chord with Martien. When he stands in front of the castle again with Erica, Maxime and Montana, tears well up in his eyes.

“I can be emotional again,” said Martien. “I’ve always liked it here a lot.” But Maxime can’t shed a tear about it. “Yeah? Well, it’s very different for me. I get very homesick when I walk in here.” But a sense of nostalgia hits every member of the family as they enter the castle. It seems that almost everything is just as they left it, including Martien’s wallpaper skills that could be improved.The new owners, Jan and Monique, are also not against a glass of wine and a little entertainment.

While staying at Chateau Marillaux, the Meilandjes also travel to their old housekeeper Nadège. First they stopped at a flea market to buy a gift for her new apartment. They certainly succeed, but not for Nadège. “We’ve only succeeded for ourselves, it’s terrible,” Martien says. In the end they find a statue and a plant.

Nadège announced in early 2022 that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer. Then she shared hopeful updates. How is the Meilandjes’ old housewife doing now? “My health is doing very well,” the Frenchman says when asked. “I spoke to the doctor after I went to the hospital last week. Everything is going well.”

Once back at Chateau Marillaux, Martien, Erica, Maxime and Montana toast the end of their camper adventure. “It was really a dream to be back,” they thank Jan and Monique.
