The period of communism in Poland was full of censorship, legal absurdities and, above all, human suffering. Also for this reason, it is worth reminding younger generations about it. This is the goal of the domestic FIXER Group team.

Four enthusiasts (Piotr Wrzosek, Wiktoria Połojko, Jacek Palczewski, Arkadiusz Nowacki) created during GameJam PolskiGameDev 2021 a small game that has just been made available on PC (Steam) and Microsoft Store (Xbox One / Xbox Series X | S). It is about Martial Law, a “visual short story” that takes us into the realities of communist Poland, showing the hardships of life in the early 1980s, when martial law was introduced.
The authors describe Martial Law in these words:
Martial Law is a game about the difficulties that came with communism in Poland. The game aims to visualize the realities of Polish families of those times, their way of thinking and understanding the world. The story is presented from the perspective of a man abandoned by his family due to his low social status. The man tries his best to stay with his daughter regardless of the inconvenience.
The most important features of Martial Law:
• Multiple Endings!
• Visual Novel.
• Learn more about Polish culture from the communist era.
• Solve the family problem.
• Have sharp debates with your companion, from the bench, from under the block.
• Talk to the grumpy old man!
• Make your child happy.
• Make the right choices or not. It depends on you.
This surprisingly nice looking design (lovely pixel art graphics!) Is currently only available on PC (Steam) and consoles (Xbox One / Xbox Series X | S). It is not yet known whether the game will also hit PS4 and PS5. One thing is certain, however – this project with educational values will remain free. You can do it for free download it from Steam or z Microsoft Store. The game is available with Polish subtitles.
