Martha Mancera became the new Attorney General of the Nation in charge, after Francisco Barbosa completed his constitutional period on February 12.
During his first intervention as head of the investigative and prosecutorial body of Colombia, Mancera assured that his main commitment is to the rule of law, the application of the law and the search for the truth through the investigation of the facts that constitute crime.
“I assume this role out of loyalty to my duties as a justice official, but aware that an extended stay in the direction of the investigating and prosecuting entity is not desirable for optimal performance.”said.
In his first speech, Mancera maintained a conciliatory tone and was open to dialogue, harmonious work between institutions and respect. “The Strategic Direction 2020 – 2024 brought very important results to the citizens and must continue to be implemented until the new prosecutor appointed by the honorable Supreme Court of Justice establishes her new roadmap. In that sense, itinerancy, the concentration of investigative activities and articulation will continue to be our institutional paths,” he indicated.
Regarding the new prosecutor, Mancera indicated that “Regardless of who becomes the titular prosecutor, we will receive it in a timely manner and with the best disposition in order to carry out the corresponding splicing tasks. The positions end, the people pass, but the institutions remain, these must be sustained and consolidated.”
