Marta Huerta, Laura Herrera and Rosana Simón, among the new advisers of the Canarian Sports Council | Radio Club Tenerife | Present

The Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the appointments of the people who make up the Canarian Sports Council, the collegiate advisory body of said regional department on this matter, to which it is attached. The Order of dismissals and appointments explains that, although the duration of the mandate must be extended by a maximum of four years, that of the holders of the previous period expired in 2004 without having been constituted again, until now. It is planned that there will be a first meeting after this renovation during the first week of December, which will take place at the Elder Museum, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Council is made up of experts of recognized competence in the physical-sports field, athletes and representatives of the administrations, the Canarian public universities and the sports federations of the islands, as established in the Decree establishing its composition and functions. It is chaired by the counselor of the Department, Manuela Armas, and the vice-minister of Education, Universities and Sports, María Dolores Rodríguez, as well as the general director of Sports, Manuel López, whose composition is governed by compliance with the principle of balanced presence. of women and men.

Thus, López highlights the importance of having renewed this important body, which the Ministry recovers after the expiration of previous mandates, 17 years ago, and on the other hand, that on this occasion the parity rule has been applied.

In this way, the new members of the body are, on behalf of the Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Laura Fuentes, at the proposal of the Ministry of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth; Conrado Domínguez (Ministry of Health), Antonio Manuel Cardona (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), and Eloy García and Luis Beltri, both representing the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports (the latter will also exercise the functions of secretary of the organ).

Tatiana Brito is appointed by the Cabildos, at the proposal of El Hierro; Claudio Gutiérrez, for Fuerteventura; Norberto Francisco Castellano, for Gran Canaria; Rosa Elena García, at the proposal of La Gomera; Francisco Javier Aparicio, for Lanzarote; Franscisco Raúl Camacho, for La Palma, and Concepción María Rivero, for Tenerife.

The Municipalities of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands are represented by Manuel Alberto González, Francisco Santos and Gilberto Sosa, in accordance with the proposal of the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (Fecam).

For the Canarian universities, Rafael Antonio Reyes is appointed, at the proposal of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Teresa Begoña López, at the request of the University of La Laguna.

At the proposal of the Canarian Sports Federations integrated into the Spanish Sports Federations, Carlos Miguel Olano, Néstor Navarro, Desireé Báez, Roberto Melián, and Sara González are appointed.

María Fernanda Donate and Antonio Ruymán Pérez will act on behalf of the Canarian Sports Federations of Indigenous and Traditional Sports and Motor Games of the Canary Islands, in accordance with the proposals made.

Finally, they represent athletes and experts Antonio Ramos, Eva Navarro, Elvira Hidalgo, Paola Hernández, Roque Díaz, Sabrina Vega, Marta Huerta, Airam Fernández, Rosanna Simón and Laura Herrera, at the request of the General Directorate of Sports, of among the proposals made by different sports entities and other entities linked to this field.

The functions of the Canarian Sports Council include advising the council with competences in this area on the sports matters entrusted to it, as well as formulating proposals and carrying out studies and reports on the specific aspects of the sports activity entrusted to it.

In addition, they include the issuance of reports on the draft provisions that are requested and knowing, in any case, the regulatory norms that have to be issued in development of the Law, and the promotion of citizen participation and collaboration with the sports administration .

Likewise, it is in charge of maintaining relations with bodies of a similar nature of the State and other Autonomous Communities, as well as any other function that may be entrusted to it by said council or is attributed to it by law or regulation.
