Munetsi’s particular clause
SDR player Marshall Munetsi has just extended his contract with Reims. Thus, the Zimbabwean international plans to stay in Reims until June 2027. A new contract, which includes a rather original clause. Indeed, it indicates that the Stade de Reims undertakes to pay 100 euros per kilometer traveled by the player to the foundation he created.
On the club’s official website, SDR general manager Mathieu Lacour explained the midfielder’s contract extension, who arrived in Reims in 2019: “We do not simply extend the player, but also the man. Say like that, it may sound cliché, which is why it was important to follow the words with concrete actions”.
Wear his heart on his sleeve
As soon as he arrived in Champagne-Ardennes, Munetsi launched his Foundation in Zimbabwe. This association helps the population to educate themselves, for example, by paying the tuition fees of the students, but also by making simple donations. Moreover, the president of the Stade de Reims did not fail to underline this: “Marshall does not hesitate to donate part of his salary to charitable purposes”before explaining: “the idea was to add a new clause in his contract, a kind of mileage bonus in order to symbolically show him our commitment but also to support and encourage this type of individual initiative.”
Therefore, if we take into account the number of kilometers already traveled by the Zimbabwean midfielder since his arrival in Reims (1,273 km), the amount reached would be 127,300 euros. However, the operation will only begin on Saturday during the match against Lille, on the occasion of the 34th day of Ligue 1. Moreover, viewers and the public present at the stadium will be able to observe in real time on the LED panels and giant screens, the number of kilometers traveled and the monetization achieved by Marshall Munetsi.
