Blues for the Big Blue. City of Marseille and police headquarters presented this Wednesday the new features of the beach security system. For the second year, municipal and national police will work together with seven new patrols of three police officers each, most often on mountain bikes, are appearing this summer. They will crisscross the coast every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. As for the eleven supervised beaches of the city, lifeguards as well as heads of posts (national or municipal police) will be constantly on site, for a total of at least four people per beach. Finally, twenty additional social mediators and a battalion of sixty CRS will complete this system and will be deployed as needed.
The main objective of this new device is “a preventive and dissuasive presence in high traffic areas“, explains the prefect of police Frédérique Camilleri. “It is a unique device. The bar of two million bathers will certainly be crossed”adds Yannick Ohanessian, deputy mayor of Marseille in charge of prevention and safety.
