The tram makes its way to the most remote districts of Marseille. A new phase of work has just started with the south and north extension of the T3 line, announced the Aix Marseille Provence metropolis, in a press release this Friday, May 19. “The future route, from la Castellane, in the northern districts, at La Rouvière, in the south, will constitute, according to the metropolis, the backbone of mobility in the Marseille conurbation”.
The operation represents a total of approximately 14 km of new infrastructure, which is broken down into two phases. France 3 gives you the latest information on the progress of the construction site.
- What is the first phase of extension?

– to the north, over 1.8 km, between Arenc and Capitaine Gèze, in connection with the metro and around ten bus lines;
– to the south, over 4.4 km, between Place Castellane and La Gaye, near the southern hospitals.
It will make it possible to connect dense and/or planned neighborhoods:
– EuroMed 1 and 2, to the north;
– Le Rouet, La Capelette, Dromel, the hospitals and the adjoining business park, to the south.
- What is the second phase of the extension?

- How is the work progressing?
The preparatory work started several months ago. Infrastructure work (roads and transport system) began in early 2022 and will continue gradually until 2025.
In the northern sector, following on from the laying of the first rails of the railway, the Metropolis teams have started targeted actions on the road network in order to prepare the tramway platform and set up a maintenance area.
The deadlines are respected, the Marseillais will be able, in a few years, to take advantage of a high quality transport network, faster, efficient and secure.

The deadlines have been met, the people of Marseilles will be able, in a few years, to benefit from a high quality transport network, faster, more efficient and more secure”, indicated Martine Vassal, president of the Metropolis and the Departmental Council.
