The Mars rover robot, Curiosity, recorded the course of a day on Mars for 12 hours from its stationary position.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — A few weeks ago, a robot explorer planet Mars NASA’s property was given a break from hard work while the aviation agency waited for the Martian solar conjunction. It is a natural phenomenon that can interfere with their communication.
Approaching the break, explorer Curiosity was placed in the parking lot but the Hazard Aversion Cameras (Hazcams) continued to take photos. In a first for the rover, Curiosity recorded day trip on Mars for 12 hours from its stationary position, capturing its shifting shadow across the landscape as the sun moves from dawn to dusk.
Reported Engadget, Tuesday (2/1/2024), the image was saved until the conjunction ended on November 25.
According to NASA, Curiosity was given instructions to record a 12-hour sequence several days before the conjunction began in mid-November. The idea is to see if it can capture any weather events that might occur.
That didn’t happen, but the images Curiosity took on November 8 are still pretty dazzling. They have been put together in two videos showing views from his front and rear Hazcams.
Curiosity’s Hazard Avoidance Cameras are typically used to help the driver avoid terrain that could endanger the rover. But with the rover parked ahead of its break in duties from November 11 to November 25, the cameras were freed up for a bit of sightseeing.
Curiosity was recorded from its position at the foot of Mount Sharp Mars from 05.30 to 17.30. He and other Mars explorers have resumed their normal activities.
