Another company has joined the race to automate Class 8 trucks.
Mars Car started its operations in the United States from Austin, Texas. Its goal is to offer automation for just $7,000 per truck.

“We are happy to bring our technology to the United States,” said Ilsu Park, CEO of Mars Auto. “Our model allows us to automate up to 99% of road routes, reducing costs for businesses while addressing the driver shortage.”
Mars Auto will test trucks on a freight corridor connecting Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, Texas. The company said it would automate trucks and also provide transportation management.
“We simplify the entire process from route planning to truck operation, which eases the workload for our customers,” says Park.
It says it can offer a low-cost alternative because it doesn’t require expensive high-definition cards or LiDAR technology. Mars Auto uses a map- and vision-based approach, like that of Tesla.
“We are not focused on selling systems, but on providing our customers with more efficient trucking services at a more affordable price through autonomous driving technology,” emphasizes Park. “Through our continued efforts, our customers will soon be able to cut their trucking costs per mile in half.”
