A wedding gift list usually has two benefits: Guests don’t have to worry about it forever, and the bride and groom can be sure they’re getting something they can do something with. However, one gift caused a real family scandal.
A bride’s grandparents took a suggestion off the list, but apparently they made the wrong choice. The bride was horrified and even threatened to be kicked out. The elders then wanted to teach her a lesson.

“She was angry and chided us that we were stingy and that she knew we had money but we didn’t love her enough to show it by buying her something more expensive,” the grandmother said, according to Newsweek’s Reddit. In her post, the old lady explains that she and her husband specifically chose the smallest gift. The real surprise was yet to come.
They wanted to write the couple a check for $40,000. With that they could take out a mortgage on their house in America. But when her granddaughter even threatened not to invite her grandparents to the party, they reconsidered their plan. In lieu of the generous cash check, they bought the couple a china service. But the bride was not satisfied with this either.
