The registry office issues marriage certificates from the marriage register. They provide information about the data of a married couple, especially about the family or married names used in the marriage and the existence or dissolution of the marriage. They also contain the following information:
- First names and surnames of the spouses before the marriage
- Place and day of their birth
- Belonging to a religious community, if it results from the entry in the register
- Place and day of the marriage
- Names of the spouses after the marriage
Note: Marriage certificates of dissolved marriages also contain the reason and time of the dissolution at the end.

Certified printout from the marriage register
In addition to the marriage certificate, there is a certified printout from the marriage register. This is
- a copy of the Entry of at the registry office respectively
- in the case of electronically managed registers, a printout of it.
It contains all civil status law corrections and changes that are noted in the register.
You need a certified printout from the marriage register, for example, to prove changes in the name of the spouses or adoptions.
International Eheurkunde
An international marriage certificate is a multilingual marriage certificate. It can be used abroad without translation. It applies in all states that do Convention of 8 September 1976 on the Issuance of Multilingual Extracts from Civil Status Books belong. In the appendix to the convention you will find a list of the contracting states.
