América-MG announced this morning the departure of coach Marquinhos Santos. The coach even granted a press conference after the team’s defeat to Avaí by 3-0 on Sunday morning (10), by the Brazilian championship.
According to the statement released by the club, the technical committee and the board met and decided to bring forward the end of the contract, which would end in May 2022.
“The America Football Club thanks you for all the great work provided by the professional and his assistant Edison Borges, who made history at América with the best placement in Serie A in all editions and the unprecedented presence in the Liberators 2022. This year, the coach also managed to take the team to the group stage of the continental competition with two historic classifications in the Pré-Libertadores”, published América-MG on its official website.
América-MG should be led by Diogo Giacomini, a member of the club’s standing committee, in the next games.
The Brazilian Championship already has two changes of coaches in the first round. On Sunday night, Alberto Valentim left Athletico after the rout suffered by São Paulo, in Morumbi, by 4 to 0.
