Good news from Marlen Reusser: The Swiss cyclist suffering from post-Covid syndrome is making progress in the healing process. She also announces a team change.

After three years in the Dutch team SD Worx Protime, Reusser will now drive for the Spanish team Movistar. The 33-year-old from Berne signed a contract valid until the end of 2027.

This marks the beginning of a new era for the three-time European time trial champion. Due to chronic fatigue syndrome, which can be traced back to long-term Covid complications, Reusser recently had to miss the Olympic Games in Paris and the home World Cup in Zurich. According to a statement from her management, she has made great progress recently. Even if she’s not completely healed yet.

«I am finally on the right track and am very optimistic about the future. Now I have lots of ideas again. I like to push myself to achieve top performance and know that I can achieve even more,” Reusser is quoted as saying. «In my new team we all have the same ideas about what we can achieve together. I have the feeling that there is the right atmosphere for me to develop further and realize my potential.”

«I doubted I would ever be on the bike again

Things have been steadily improving for Reusser in recent years. She developed from a pure time trial specialist to a winning rider in one-day races and tours until her health slowed her down this year. «This rather serious illness has made many things questionable for me. There were moments when I seriously doubted whether I would ever be on the bike again,” says Reusser. The trust she gets from SD Worx Protime and now from Movistar has relieved her of a lot of stress. “Everyone believed in me.”

Health remains her top priority: “I don’t know where the finish line is, but I’m super, super motivated. I can’t wait to work towards my goals.”
