Actually, the trainers at Dynamo give each other a hand. But this time it was different…
Markus Beginning (48) is the first head coach since Uwe Neuhaus (63) in the 2017/18 season to survive a full season on the sidelines of the Black and Yellows.
In the four years in between, five other trainers took over, plus two interim coaches.
START MAKES THE NEUHAUS!
In fact, there are more similarities than meets the eye. Because both coaches rely on ball possession and the same offensive 4:3:3 system.
Sports director Ralf Becker (52) says: “Markus does not play simple football. The processes and automatisms take time, you saw that in the first half of the season. We tried a lot. In the back series we were then on a very good path.”
The 3-1 win against Wiesbaden shortly before the end of the season was probably the most respectable performance in terms of dominance with ball possession since Neuhaus left.
Still missed Beginning what Neuhaus did immediately: the leap into the 2nd league.
Although Heidenheim (in their 16th year under Frank Schmidt) and Elversberg (in their 5th year under Horst Steffen) celebrated exceptional promotions to the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, it is difficult to imagine such long attempts in Dresden.
Promotion 2024 as a clear goal
“It’s just a quieter environment there. For clubs like us, it’s about achieving maximum success quickly,” explains Becker, but he still says: “Continuity is always good and important. But we said clearly that we have to be in the second division in 2024.”
That means: Beginning and Becker are unlikely to last another season without promotion.
This is one of the reasons why both will coordinate the transfers all the more closely. Becker: “There are a few clubs with a different structure where the coach is not asked. With us, Markus is very much involved in all decisions.” Accordingly, the requirement profiles were already strongly aligned with the initial system.
And there is a good omen that Beginning will rise at the second attempt like Neuhaus: Although the ex-coach grabbed it right away in 2016, it was back then Dynamos second third division year in a row…
