“He came back in Formula 1 after more than half a year and put the car in third place. That was a great performance by Nico Hulkenberg,” Helmut Marko said at the time of the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. adding, “He’s got my number.”
The latter turned out to be true as a cow, because, as Marko reveals in conversation with Motorsport-Total, Hulkenberg has reported to him: “He has let us know that he is available.”
However, Marko’s compliments and Hulkenberg’s open application do not mean that he will soon be in the Red Bull: “I gave him those compliments purely from a sports point of view, but that does not mean that he will get into our car.”
“Hulkenberg did a great job, but when everyone I compliment comes knocking, we need a lineup of at least ten cars.”
Incidentally, it is not the first time that Hulkenberg has turned to Red Bull. When it turned out in 2019 that there would no longer be a place for him at Renault, he looked elsewhere. Unfortunately for the German he was blunted by the Austrian formation.
