Marko hints at early contract extension for Verstappen at Red Bull

After winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and thus the world title, Max Verstappen already hinted at his future plans. “Can we do this for another ten to fifteen years,” he said after crossing the finish line. The Dutchman would like to stay with Red Bull and has a contract until 2023.

This contract may be extended at an early stage, Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko explains Motorsport Total. Verstappen will soon be going to his office in Salzburg. “Let’s have a look at it then. We will discuss an extension and maybe realize it already.”

In any case, no switch to Mercedes

According to the Red Bull advisor, a future switch to Mercedes is no longer an option for Verstappen. “That risk no longer exists,” says the man from Graz. “Too much has broken down at Silverstone.” Here the Dutchman crashed hard after a blow from Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.

Marko praises his driver and hopes that the collaboration can be continued for a long time to come. “He’s the fastest, most consistent driver we’ve ever had,” said the Austrian. He compares him to Ayrton Senna. “These two drivers are similar in mentality, personality and aggressiveness. We are very happy to have someone like him.”
