Two weeks ago, Max Verstappen received a five-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags. The race management ruled that, despite human error, the Red Bull driver should have stepped off the gas. They were relentless and Verstappen had to start the race in seventh.
There was therefore great anger at Helmut Marko when he heard that Lewis Hamilton was not penalized, while according to the system double yellow flags were waved. According to the race management, there was also an error in the system, after which Hamilton acquitted.
“What is it our concern? It was yellow on the display. In Qatar it was yellow for a second and now there is suddenly a different interpretation of the situation. We no longer accept that,” said an angry Marko in conversation with selected media.
“The display was yellow, so Mercedes also had it. What’s the problem all of a sudden? It was very clear, the sector was yellow,” Marko is clear.
Update: The Red Bull team tells RacingNews365 that it will not appeal against the stewards’ decision.
