Tangerang –
Markis Kido dedicates his life to Indonesian badminton. He also left us all on the badminton court. Goodbye, Kiddo!
Sad news came from the world of Indonesian badminton, Monday (14/6/2021) evening WIB. Former top badminton player Markis Kido breathed his last while playing badminton at GOR Petrolin, Alam Sutera, Tangerang.
Kido was rushed to the Omni Alam Sutera hospital but his life could not be saved. It is suspected that Kido died of heart failure because he had collapsed on the badminton court.
Even though Kido had played and his condition was fine. He even joked with his colleagues there, including former badminton player Candra Wijaya.
Candra had already done first aid but fate said otherwise, Kido had to close his eyes forever while playing badminton. Yes, the sport he loved so much and made his name smell good.
How not, Kido is an Indonesian badminton legend because he was able to present the 2008 Olympic gold medal in Beijing together Hendra Setiawan. Both of them even had time to become the world’s number one doubles.
Apart from the Olympics, Hendra/Markis also won in several other prestigious events such as the SEA Games (2005, 2007, 2009), BWF World Championships 2007, Asian Badminton Championships 2005 and 2009, Asian Games 2010.
So his departure while playing badminton was as destined by the Almighty.
“He seems to really want it (life and death) in the field this time. I was praying that he could still survive,” said Kido’s mother, Zul Asteria, who seemed determined to explain the condition of her first son.
“I thought it was just a stroke, because he has high blood pressure and he probably fell and his blood vessels burst. I prayed that way, but it turned out that Mas Kido was taken,” Zul continued, as quoted from the official PBSI website.
