Markgräfler Land: False bank advisor cheated elderly lady out of savings – tips from the police

An elderly woman from a community in Markgräflerland was called shortly beforehand by an alleged bank advisor, as an attempt had been made to withdraw a four-digit amount from her account without authorization. To secure the money, the lady should withdraw the amount and deposit it on the garden wall. The previously unknown perpetrators were able to collect the cash at the agreed location.

The police have started the investigation and are providing the following tips and advice:

– The police or authorities will never ask you for money over the phone.

– Do not give any details about your financial situation or your valuables over the phone.

– Don’t let yourself be pressured on the phone. Just hang up.

– DO NOT use the callback function, otherwise you could end up with the caller and the perpetrator.

– Never give money to strangers.

– As a matter of principle, do not let strangers into your apartment.

– Ask for official IDs from alleged officials, such as police officers.

– Inform older acquaintances or relatives about possible
Scams.
