Wall Street also received a further boost: Biden’s likely appointment of the former Federal Reserve chairman, Janet Yellen, as Secretary of the Treasury. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen by1,12% overnight, the S&P 500 gained 0.56%, while the Nasdaq Composite only rallied 0.22%, underperforming as traders moved away from the big tech names.
The optimistic scenario helped the MSCI index of Asia-Pacific equities outside of Japan to grow by 0.15%. Australia’s S & P / ASX 200 was 1.1% stronger, hitting its highest level in nearly nine months, with energy stocks leading the pack.
The Nikkei Japan jumped 2.48% while Seoul’s Kospi rose 0.74%. Chinese blue-chips and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, however, recorded outliers, down 0.75% and 0.08%.
The European equities are expected to rise on Tuesday amid growing optimism about the discovery of another effective vaccine and news that the Trump administration has accepted the handover of power to President-elect Joe Biden.
Second IG, the FTSE in London will open with 33 points more at 6,378, the German DAX with 86 points more at 13,258, the French CAC 40 up 32 points to 5,538 and the FTSE MIB in Italy by 210 points more to 21,921.
