There are two departures coming up in Kitzbühel in the coming days. The Hahnenkamm races are once again not stingy with their prize money. A good 333,000 francs are paid out per race. The winner of a race alone can win 100,000 for the winter.
It is therefore possible that Marco Odermatt will fill his coffers. The Swiss superstar is considered the big favorite to win – on both descents, of course. But at Odermatt, prize money has no longer been the number one source of income. This despite the fact that he has already brought in a good 400,000 francs this year.
Odermatt has several supplier and sponsorship contracts. He has become a brand for a long time. But why? “He is a likeable personality who is very approachable. It could also be a colleague from the neighborhood,” explains marketing professional Fabian Plüss.
The co-founder of the Kingfluencers agency also draws a comparison to the beginnings of Roger Federer, probably the greatest Swiss athlete of all time. Plüss adds: “Odermatt is an exceptional popular figure that doesn’t come along often. Sympathetic and down-to-earth.”
Don’t just chase the money
It’s not for nothing that Odermatt has big names at its side, including Red Bull, Longines, Descente and Raiffeisen. Odermatt has a long-term contract with most companies. Individual posts on social media are rare. This although he could also bring in a larger sum. Plüss estimates for 20 minutes that Odermatt could earn up to 50,000 francs per contribution as long as he is so successful.
But at Odermatt it’s not about the money. This also shows his connection to some sponsors who have been at his side for years. His manager Michael Schiendorfer once said in an interview: “Anyone who only chases money is making a big mistake.” A mistake that Odermatt doesn’t make.
