Vogelsbergkreis(pm). “I hope everyone can understand me – you are all muted during the meeting. If you have a contribution, please give us a sign in the chat.” It was very unusual words with which Sebastian Simon, member of the community of Antrifttal and deputy chairman of the outgoing 13th district youth parliament (KJP), recently opened the constituent session of the 14th parliament. The 13th KJP meets for the last time and the 14th KJP for the first time in a video conference.
“Young people have been involved in the first parliament of this kind in Germany since 1992. They help shape the discourse, bring youth policy issues to the public and promote dialogue between local politics and young people,” praised first district member Jens Mischak (CDU) at the constituent meeting.
The beginning of the session is characterized by a review of the work of the 13th KJP. The accountability report is presented and some parliamentarians report on projects. For example, the fundraising campaign for Children’s Cancer Aid or the application submitted to the district council in 2019 for the use of recycled paper in the district administration, the development of a new logo or the visit to the state parliament.
Sebastian Simon then sends his thanks to various addresses: In addition to District Administrator Manfred Görig, First District Member Jens Mischak and the members of parliament, he especially thanks the supporters of the KJP who feel connected to the work and make it possible.
Main areas of work presented
The second part of the meeting was dedicated to the newly elected 14th KJP. The parliamentarians present the main areas of work that were worked out at an introductory meeting. You want to be the mouthpiece of the young people, show initiative and take responsibility. In addition, the three working groups “Marketing, Environment and Equal Rights” are formed there. Furthermore, the meeting participants draw up an election list for the board, which currently takes place by postal vote. “Many thanks to all MPs who were involved in the KJP in the past legislative period and good luck to the MPs who were elected with an impressive turnout in October,” said Mischak. “Contribute your ideas, make the children and young people in your communities heard and help everyone write the success story of our KJP,” said Mischak, calling on the new parliamentarians.
