Market shock: Due to precision 9.8% down sales in retail trade in February – 2024-05-01 01:25:22

A decrease of 9.8% was noted in the volume of sales in the country’s retail trade in February this year, as sales moved downwards in all individual categories of stores without exception, which is essentially connected to the accuracy and lack of liquidity and income in households, as reported by the ELSTAT survey.

In particular, the turnover decreased to:

  • Department stores (20.3%),
  • Books- Stationery- Other items (15.3%),
  • Car fuels and lubricants (9.7%),
  • Food- Drinks- Tobacco (8%), Furniture- Electrical goods- Household equipment (6.4%),
  • Large food stores (6%),
  • Pharmaceuticals- Cosmetics (4.5%) and
  • Clothing- Footwear (0.9%).

As announced by ELSTAT, the general volume index (turnover at constant prices) in retail trade showed a decrease of 9.8% in February 2024 compared to the corresponding index of February 2023, while compared to the corresponding index of January 2024 it increased 3.9%. The seasonally adjusted general index showed a decrease of 3.8% in February 2024 compared to the corresponding index in January 2024.

While, the general turnover index (turnover at current prices) showed a decrease of 3.8% in February 2024 compared to the corresponding index of February 2023, while compared to the corresponding index of January 2024 it showed an increase of 3.7%. The seasonally adjusted general index showed an increase of 0.7% in February 2024 compared to the corresponding index in January 2024.
