Market news: the Prime Minister finalizes the memorandum of understanding – AGP

Libreville, July 18, 2023 (AGP) – The Prime Minister, Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze, co-signed this Tuesday 18 Julywith the ministries concerned, the order on the price cap of 67 imported products, as part of the fight against the high cost of living, in accordance with its commitment made in its general policy statement.

«The Prime Minister proceeded to the signing of this decree which comes here to finalize the process of the memorandum of understanding that we signed on July 06 with the stakeholders, namely, the Syndicates of importers, the Syndicates of semi-wholesalers, the retailers union, consumer union, economic operators in general“Explained the Minister of Economy and Recovery, Nicole Jeanine Lydie Roboty-Mbou, specifying that the decree concerns 67 imported products.

This price list replaces that of 48 products introduced in 2021 by the government, underlined Ms. Roboty-Mbou, adding that it comes into force on July 20, throughout the country.

In mid-April last, the government organized, with the support of employers, consumer associations, unions, traders, as well as members of civil society, the National Conference on High Cost of Living.

The new market price is the fruit of this great social mass. Because, it fits with the resolutions that have been taken, in order to fight effectively against the high cost of living.

This involved, among other things, fighting against parafiscal taxation and abolishing all levies not provided for in the Finance Act and which were created by regulatory texts, at the central, decentralized or decentralized level by the State.

Nicole Jeanine Lydie Roboty-Mbou announced a communication plan for the popularization of the new price list, in all districts, with mixed brigades from the Ministry of the Economy and that of Trade.

«For violators of the strict application of the price that appears in the list price, be aware that our control brigades can go so far as to be able to close the stores.“, she warned.

«People have to comply because it is really for us expectations that are very strong […] we must guarantee compliance with this price list, we have toll-free “8085” numbers and we are going to have general managers who will animate several platforms to explain more about what needs to be done, both for the population, but also for traders“, she claimed.
