Markazia – Al-Abyad receives a donation of medicines from Qatar

central Interim Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abyadh, received a donation of medicines provided by the Qatar Red Crescent, funded by Qatar Charity, at a meeting attended by adviser to the Qatari ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Mutawa , and the director of the Qatar Red Crescent Mission in Lebanon, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sousi.

The donation includes approximately four hundred thirty-one thousand boxes of medicines (431,308) for eleven (11) chronic disease medicines most in need, according to the provisions of the Ministry of Public Health. The equivalent of seventy percent of these medicines will be provided to the Ministry of Public Health for free distribution to patients through primary health care centers scattered throughout various Lebanese regions, provided that thirty percent of the remaining amount is provided to the Ministry of the Interior and Municipalities for distribution to the pharmacies of the Internal Security Forces.

In a speech to Al-Abyad, he noted that this donation “constitutes a continuation of Qatar’s continued and grateful support to Lebanon, especially to projects related to the hospital sector, including support for government hospitals through a diesel donation exceeding five million dollars, which has enabled these hospitals to continue providing services during the current challenging times.” As well as supporting Karantina Hospital through the direction of the new construction project adjacent to the hospital worth approximately twenty million dollars, and other support for other hospitals.

He also highlighted “the many important programs offered by the Qatar Red Crescent in Lebanon to help Lebanese and IDPs, the most important of which was the recent fruitful cooperation to provide safe drinking water in Arsal for Lebanese and IDPs, such as as well as supplying this safe water to other places in Lebanon.”

Al-Abyadh underlined that “the important thing about this support is that it is provided without any request. The Qatari brothers, in fact, confirm that what they provide is part of their moral duty towards the Lebanese”. The white minister expressed his sincere thanks, adding that “those who do not thank the people do not thank God”, hoping that “the situation in Lebanon will improve”.

Regarding the donation of medicines, Al-Sousi thanked Qatar Charity, which provided the funding, and the WMCA organization, which takes on the task of distributing medicines to dispensaries within a protocol signed with the Ministry of Public Health. He announced that “the drug project is included in the Red Crescent plan for the year 2023, and this donation is part of it because the project will continue.”
