Liputan6.com, Jakarta – CEO Meta, Mark Zuckerbergrecently showed off a line of prototype VR headsets being developed by the company.
It is said that several prototypes of Meta’s VR headset are designed to test one particular feature and are able to render VR to look like the real world.
The first prototype was named “Butterscotch“, where the device focuses on increasing the number of pixels to achieve what’s known as retinal resolution–about 60 pixels per degree.
This prototype is capable of reaching 55px/deg, with 2.5 times more pixels than Quest 2.
There is another prototype called Half Dome, where this device tries to solve the problem where the human eye changes focus when shifting its gaze from the nearest object to the far one or vice versa.

With this, the Meta team was able to produce a VR headset with a virtual scene but feeling more natural when viewing images.
Meta also showcased a prototype VR headset with resolution, brightness, size, and focus capabilities to the limit.
Then there’s Starburst, the first VR headset to support HDR. Although only a prototype, the display in the real world is often brighter than what is displayed on the TV or screen.
Mark Zuckerberg said, Starburst can reach 20,000 nits brightness. However, the consumer version of the device is only limited to 10,000 nits for more comfort–10x brighter than most smartphone.
