It is common today for social networks to offer paid versions of their platform, allowing users to benefit from new exclusive features. This is now also the case with the Meta group, which is currently testing Meta Verified.
After Snapchat and its paid subscription Snapchat +, Telegram and Telegram Premium, YouTube and YouTube premium, Twitter and Twitter Blue… It’s the Meta group’s turn to start testing a subscription that offers unique features to its users. Made for ” help up-and-coming creators grow their presence and build a community faster “, Meta Verified offers a set of subscriptions on Instagram and Facebook that includes: a verification badge, strong authentication capable of preventing identity theft, assistance in the event of a problem, or even more visibility.
Specifically, Meta Verified offers creators: a verification badge that confirms the identity of an account; identity theft protection through proactive monitoring of accounts that may target people with growing online audiences; personalized assistance with the possibility of interacting with a person from the Meta group to solve problems of use; increased visibility and reach that will go through a stronger appearance in search results, comments or even recommendations; or exclusive features under development.
Increased visibility, but at what cost?
Meta Verified is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand and will be rolled out to other countries in the coming weeks. The subscription is offered for $11.99 on the web and for $14.99 on iOS or Android. Creators have the possibility to subscribe to this new form of subscription, directly from Instagram or Facebook.
Although this new subscription is for the moment only intended for creators, Meta wishes, in the future, to work on a paid subscription accessible to all users.
Safety as the main motivation of the Meta group
By presenting Meta Verified, Mark Zuckerberg reaffirms his desire to focus above all on user security. With this new subscription, the platform wants to strengthen the security of creators’ accounts, while allowing users to ensure that they are interacting with the right people. Moreover, the group verifies in a reinforced way the accounts which make a request for subscription to Meta Verified. Who is eligible?
Eligible Meta Verified subscribers must be 18 years of age or older, attest to their identity by issuing an ID card that matches the profile picture or username of a Facebook or Instagram account, and submit to a verification of their previous publications.
To promote its future paid subscription Meta Verified while using its new functionality: the Meta Channels, the group invites curious users to join the Meta Channel of Mark Zuckerberg.
