In true “Ready Player One” style or William Gibson’s novels, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, one of today’s most prominent social networks, shared his desire to expand the reach of Internet with the possibility of creating a virtual metaverse, the central idea being to expand the way people perceive the Internet.
In an interview with The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg explained the idea he previously shared in a statement to Facebook employees, stating that this new platform would be “the successor to the Internet”, and that he would be a joint effort with various companies and not just one more Facebook extension.

“It’s definitely not something that a company is going to build, but I think a big part of our next chapter is to help build it, partnering with many other companies, creators and developers. But you can think of the metaverse as an embodiment of the Internet, where instead of viewing content, you are there, ”Zuckerberg said.
The CEO of Facebook points out that in this metaverse, you can feel the presence of other people in real time and enjoy experiences that could not be achieved in a two-dimensional app or a web page, “like dancing or different kinds of things. ‘drills,’ Zuckerberg said.
