Mark Ruffalo, actor known for playing Hulk in The Avengers, reveals that a solo film for the famous green superhero is not in the immediate plans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During an interview with GQ, Ruffalo expressed: “I would love to do a standalone Hulk movie, but I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s very expensive if you made a whole movie, that’s why they use Hulk so little. I went out of budgetâ€.
Mark’s most recent appearance as the green monster was in the Disney+ series titled She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in 2022. However, the production of the series faced challenges due to the high costs of the visual effects required to bring the main character to life.

Additionally, there were production problems related to incomplete scripts. These factors have led to speculation that the series may not have a second season due to cost overruns.
As Marvel Studios takes a quality over quantity approach to its future projects, Mark sees this as an opportunity for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to regain the greatness it had during the Infinity Saga. The actor considers:
“I think the expansion to streaming was really exciting, but the thing about Marvel movies is that you had to wait three years and that created a mystique. These fixes could be really positive things. Will it be what it was? I don’t know.â€
Past difficulties
The hero’s previous solo films have had mixed results. Both Ang Lee’s Hulk in 2003 and the MCU’s The Incredible Hulk in 2008 received mixed reviews and faced challenges at the box office.
Since his debut in The Avengers in 2012, the character has primarily been used as a supporting player in Marvel productions.
Although a new solo film is not on the near horizon, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has expressed that they still have big plans for the character.
