Kamala Harris is sparking a level of euphoria in the USA that hasn’t been seen before a presidential election for a long time. “Star Wars” legend Mark Hamill draws parallels to 2008.

Atlanta – Kamala Harris is not officially the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate yet. But the party is stepping up the pace. Joe Biden’s vice president is to be nominated before the party convention in a virtual vote starting on Thursday (August 1). A formality, because Harris is the only candidate. So she is already busy campaigning – and apparently knows how to convince people.

“Enthusiasm like Barack Obama’s in 2008”: Actor Mark Hamill enthusiastic about Kamala Harris

Harris appeared on July 30 at the multi-purpose hall of Georgia State University in Atlanta. The hall has space for 8,000 spectators, but the organizers said there were 10,000 at the rally of the designated candidate for the 2024 US election, writes the New York Times.

And the atmosphere was great too. An employee of the media company MeidasTouch recorded a video of Harris stepping onto the podium. The 59-year-old cannot begin her speech because of all the cheering, screaming and excitement. She repeats “Good evening” several times. Harris seems overwhelmed and surprised. He shared it on X and simply wrote “Wow”. The clip has already been viewed by several million people.

Mark Hamill is also impressed by the euphoria surrounding the current vice president. The actor, who became known through his role as Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” films, shared the Harris clip on X and wrote: “Really wow. I haven’t seen this kind of enthusiasm since Obama’s first campaign in 2008. We are not going back… and we are just getting started. #LetsGooooooooooooo!” Shortly before, Hamill had announced that he had joined the support group “White Dudes for Harris”.

In her 20-minute speech, Harris called on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to stick to the TV debate planned for September 10. Biden and Trump were originally supposed to compete against each other. While Harris is ready for the debate, the Republican expressed hesitation. “The funny thing is: He [Trump, Anm. d. Red.] doesn’t want to debate, but he and his running mate seem to have a lot to say about me.” She hopes for a change of mind. “Because as the saying goes, if you have something to say, say it to my face,” said Harris, who continues to gain ground on Trump in the polls.
