Mark Gurman: Apple further postpones internal target for its own iPhone modem

There are pros and cons (or “challenges”) to building your own.

Under Tim Cook it is a strategic choice to design the most important hardware himself. (the question is whether they will ever make their own cameras…)

On the one hand you have strategy, but what is quite special about Apple: they also execute it very well. They have largely managed to avoid the possible disadvantages/pitfalls so far.

As a result, Apple has been able to build enormous value and position itself uniquely within multiple markets.

Take the telephone market for example: Android phone makers mainly compete with each other, because someone who wants to buy an Android has first made the choice “iPhone or Android” and only then comes the choice “which Android”.

(The choice of “which iPhone” of course also comes to those who choose iPhone, but within that it is evident that Apple always comes out favorably ;-))
