Mark Gillis from the hospital: ‘It was touch and go’

Mark Gillis

He describes it as an intense period with 24 days in intensive care and 17 days in a coma. “I can say that it was a tough time.” According to a doctor, he might not have survived if he had not gone to the hospital in time. “That makes you think for a moment,” says Mark. “It was just a close call and I was lucky. I had several angels on my shoulder.”

Mark is very grateful for the support of his family members, who were also there when he was discharged from the hospital. “My family supported me day and night, from what I remember. They were there all night when I was in intensive care.” Mark will be going with his father Peter to recover. “Dad has a nice fitness room at home and I will receive further care there.” He looks forward to the future: “That should be fine.”
