Mark Cavendish reached Andorra last yesterday. The time limit was not a (notable) problem, but there are still very tough mountain stages on the menu in the Pyrenees.
“Am I nervous about the limit? I’m nervous about it every day,” Cavendish told a press conference this afternoon. “But there’s nothing you can do about it…”
“Hopefully the toughest days are behind us. Don’t think you’re joking in the gruppetto either.”
“A bus like this works a little more calculated these days, a little more scientifically. And I’m very lucky with my teammates.”

About number 35 – which would bring Cavendish to a lonely height – he remained flat.
“Such a stage win would mean the same as a stage win meant a few years ago. I’m here to perform and you want to grab every opportunity.”
Does Cavendish already know what his future will look like after Paris? A smile appeared on his face at the question and a glance at foreman Patrick Lefevere. “I’ve already thought about it and I need to talk to him (Lefevere).”
“I feel happy with this team and on the bike,” replied the Brit, whose contract is expiring.
“I can’t keep racing forever, but I still love the bike and this profession. And I’m still competitive.”
“I’d like to carry on“, Cavendish concluded. “I would like to keep racing. If I can keep inspiring, then I want to keep racing as long as my body allows it.”
