The son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, has admitted to having committed an act of violence. According to his public statement published on his social media, Høiby admitted to having vandalized an apartment and committed bodily harm on August 4, 2024 while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, Blue News reports.

“She did not deserve what happened that night,” he admitted in his statement, while referring to his arrest and the subsequent police investigation. Høiby stressed that he wanted to “tell the truth to the police.”

Already been in treatment

In addition to his account of the crime, Høiby also spoke about his personal struggle with mental health issues, which have repeatedly gotten him into trouble, and his long-standing substance abuse. He has admitted to having completed therapeutic treatment for this in the past and now plans to resume it.

Despite these efforts, Høiby insists that his personal problems do not excuse his actions and that he should be held accountable for his actions.

Controversies in the private sphere

But not everyone sees things the way Høiby portrays them. Nora Haukland, his ex-girlfriend, has disputed his claim that the incidents were a one-off slip-up and has made serious allegations against the Crown Princess’ son. According to Haukland, she was punched in the face, kicked and choked, and her apartment was ransacked. Haukland said, “he speaks as if it had happened for the first time.”

Also worrying are the statements of Julianne Snekkestad, another ex-girlfriend of Høiby, who reported in her Instagram story about “psychological and physical violence” during their four-year relationship.

Apology and future steps

Despite the allegations and the controversy surrounding him, Høiby has apologized and announced that he will resume his therapeutic treatment. “I want to be held accountable for what I have done,” he assures, and seems determined to continue his path to recovery.

Regardless of his claims and confessions, it remains to be seen how the investigations into his person will end.

Marius Borg Høiby’s role in the Norwegian royal family has often been the subject of debate in the past, particularly due to his unusual position as a stepchild within the traditionally formed royal family. Despite the fact that officials have stressed that Høiby should not have a public role or be a public person, he has nevertheless achieved a certain level of fame.

However, his life was not without scandals, from the very beginning. Born into an environment where many of his acquaintances and family members, including his father, were condemned, the challenges and controversies that have marked Marius Borg Høiby’s life only underline the difficulties that come with living in the royal family.

With the recent allegations and the court case that awaits Høiby, he will continue to face challenges in his already complex position within the royal family and the public.

Although Høiby has committed to resuming his therapeutic treatment and taking responsibility for his actions, it is clear that these recent events are just another chapter in a series of challenges that have shaped his life.
