Marítimo continues in the Portuguese Cup, after beating Canelas 2010, 3-1, in the fourth round of the competition.
The Madeiran team started well, opening the scoring in Vila Nova de Gaia after just seven minutes, through José Bica.
The young striker could have scored twice soon after, after a mistake by the home defense, but he hit the post, when the opposing goalkeeper had already ‘sat down’.
Canelas tried to react, but Marítimo was more consistent and doubled the lead just before the break, with a goal from Bruno Xadas.
In the second half, Brazilian striker Euller Silva made it 3-0, in the 76th minute.
The most the home team managed to do was reduce the difference, through Afonso Sousa, in added time.
Marítimo thus advances to the round of 16 of the competition.
