The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Usama Rabi, said that maritime rescue efforts continue to resolve a collision between the CHINAGAS LEGEND tanker and the Fahd tug, one of the Authority’s tugs, at km 51 in Al.
The tug collided with a tanker in the waters of the Suez Canal, after which it sank.
While work continues at the scene to raise the tug, the tanker has been sent to Port Said until the circumstances of the incident are clarified.
Information about the victims and the causes of the accident is not given.
Recall that in March 2021, the container ship Ever Given, 400 meters long, ran aground on the southern section of the Suez Canal and blocked one of the busiest waterways in the world for almost a week.
After all, about 15% of world shipping passes through the Suez Canal. Due to a traffic jam in the Suez Canal, world trade was losing $400 million every hour.
