Salvamar Talía continues to go to the cayuco that was sighted yesterday by a SAR plane 270 miles southwest of El Hierro with three survivors and 17 bodies on board.
To prevent the cayuco from adrift in the Atlantic, it is being guarded by the ship Lady Doris. Maritime rescue sources consulted by the SER estimate that the Salvamar will reach the cayuco around 12 in the morning, Canary time. The only three survivors of the boat were transferred to Tenerife, where they remain hospitalized. One of them in serious condition due to severe dehydration.
The Salvamar with the towed boat is expected to arrive at the port of Los Cristianos during the day of tomorrow, due to the great distance from the coast to which it is located. The Salvamar that has come to the rescue has much greater autonomy than those that usually deal with this type of operations, precisely because it had to travel almost 500 kilometers from the Islands. Even so, the journey to Los Cristianos will be even slower because the Talía will come dragging the boat with the 17 corpses.
In addition, in the course of rescue operations, another dinghy has been located in this case 170 miles south of Gran Canaria with 41 people on board, of which three are children. All are in good health and are being transferred to the port of Los Cristianos.
