After two difficult Corona years, the little sister of the Hanse Sail starts today in Waren an der Müritz: the Müritz Sail. For four days, trend sports in the water will be shown in the port city, there will be sightseeing flights and electronic music by Schiller.
The Müritz Sail 2022 starts today at 11 a.m. in Waren an der Müritz. It is the 20th edition of the maritime folk festival, which is intended to attract visitors with sailing and other maritime races as well as entertainment and music. The highlights of the anniversary event are a concert by the electronic music project Schiller, which is planned for Saturday at the city harbour, a laser show and fireworks.
Trend sport wingfoiling is presented
Further highlights until Sunday are a wingfoil regatta, sailing races, acrobatics on jet skis and seaplane sightseeing flights. In addition, there should be several decentralized street music offers. With wingfoiling, water sports enthusiasts glide over the water on a wingfoil board with the help of the wind and a wing. Such trend sports are traditionally presented at the Müritz.

Little sister of the Hanse Sail
The Müritz Sail is the little sister of the significantly larger Hanse Sail in Rostock. It was completely canceled in 2020 due to the corona and took place in autumn 2021 on a much smaller scale. “We are very happy that we can now continue the tradition of the Müritz Sail after the difficult Corona years and also expand it to the south bank of the Müritz,” said Waren’s Mayor Norbert Möller (SPD).
Second location in Rechlin for the first time
This year there will also be events in Rechlin for the first time. Everything there revolves around knights and Vikings. Visitors can look forward to jugglers, fire shows and medieval music. Waren is the largest city on the inland lake, which, with an area of 117 square kilometers, is the largest inland lake in Germany and a magnet for water sports enthusiasts.
